It’s the last stretch of the Chaparral Girls Poms’ season, and poms teams across the district have spent hours working towards a common goal: winning League. Practice after practice, they have worked to perfect their routines and nail it at the League competition.
We all know the feeling-- the goosebumps on our arms and the butterflies in our stomachs when we witness something breathtaking. Wednesday night, the Chaparral Varsity Poms team sparked these feelings in everyone who witnessed them perform.
On Wednesday, November 17th, the Poms Continental League Championship was held at Heritage High School. With Chaparral being reigning State champions, the pressure was on and the anticipation was high. Four performances in and it was time for Chaparral to take the floor. Family, friends, and fans watched anxiously as the girls went on, and were delighted when they witnessed an intense, and nearly flawless performance. When the end of the competition rolled around, it was time to announce a winner. The announcer’s voice was loud and clear. “First place, for the Varsity Jazz Continental League Championship”…silence filled the room... “Chaparral!” The words were soon drowned out by the screams of joy coming from the dancers and fans. Chaparral scored a 90.5 out of a possible 100 points, placing first out of eight teams in the Jazz category with Highlands Ranch High School close behind. The team put on an striking performance, and brought home a win for Chaparral High School.
