The Chaparral Wolverines defeated the Ponderosa Mustangs Wednesday, February 2nd,  in their cross-town rivalry. The game was originally set for Tuesday, February 2nd but moved due to the recent blizzard which resulted in a snow day for Douglas County.

During the first half both teams struggled to establish a solid lead leaving the crowd on their toes. Chaparral and Ponderosa challenged each other in the 3rd and 4th quarters, both bringing high intensity and energy throughout the half. However, the Wolverines managed to steal the show with two dunks, one from junior Nick Williams and one from freshman Ronnie DeGray, and a 3-point run by Freshman Joseph Dalton. Fans showed their enthusiasm after Williams put down his dunk just before half-time. Freshman Ronnie DeGray brought the game home with his dunk in the last quarter, leading to the final score of 58-50.

Despite a rough start to the season, the Wolverines managed to collect some wins. “We’re really coming closer together as a team and I love how everyone is competing every minute of the game,” said Williams. The schedule can be found on the Chaparral Website under athletics and Boys Basketball. The basketball program hopes to see an increase in fan numbers for the remainder of the season, as it adds to momentum and helps the boys bring home each victory.
