Each year, amazing teachers come and go from Chaparral High School. This new 2016-2017 year brought numerous extraordinary staff members. Teachers come to Chaparral from different states, cities, and counties to enlighten over 2,000 students. This year the physical education department gained another team member to coach, train, and push athletes to the extreme. Growing up, people follows their own paths to determine what career we all want to pursue. PE teacher Shawn Larkin said, “ When I was looking through the catalog at the University of Idaho, PE just jumped out at me.” Larkin graduated from the University of Idaho to teach in Douglas County. “ This is my tenth year in Douglas County,” said Larkin. Larkin was hired in June 2016, beginning his career at Chaparral. Currently, Larkin coaches the freshman football team and plans to be the throwing coach for track and field. Larkin’s himself is a veteran football player: “ I played high school football and one year of Junior college and 2 years of semi-professional football,” said Larkin. The Chaparral family was pleased to welcome Larkin with open arms.
